Calogero Quaranta
Calogero Quaranta was born and raised in Sigmaringen, Germany, before moving to Aachen to study chemistry at RWTH Aachen University. He discovered his passion for organic chemistry very early on. In his words, an organic chemist is an architect of molecules. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at RWTH Aachen with his master's thesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carsten Bolm. Since then, he has been a doctoral student in the Bolm group, focusing on mechanochemistry, organocatalysis and the synthesis of organosulfur heterocycles. Now he has joined the prestigious group of Prof. Dr. Sukbok Chang at KAIST/IBS in Daejeon (South Korea) for a research stay to learn a new field of chemistry and broaden his horizon as a chemist, while getting to know the rich culture of South Korea.
